It's science!
As an undergraduate physicist, I come across a lot of the beautiful unknown territories of the everyday philosopher. In this photo series, I'll attempt to display and discuss a few of my photographs in terms that can be understood without a real background in mathematics or physics.
Light is composed of variations in the electro-magnetic field, with much of the behavior of ripples on a pond. In the above photo, a laser has been split into a series of beams and then merged back together. Due to different lengths in separate beams, the laser meets out of phase. This means the beam can no longer be solid, but will instead show a series of ripples in the beam's intensity, which is very apparent in the glare of this photo - a grand affirmation of the wave nature of light.
